When we started researching places for podcasters to store their media files and RSS feeds, we didn't expect to find so many different hosting services (especially free ones). There are tons of hosts for podcasters (and tons more that aren't... Remember, you don't need to use a podcast specific hosting service. You can publish your podcast anywhere you can upload files.) The hosts listed on this chart offer the types of tools, bandwidth, and storage that podcasters need in order to make publishing their audio and video content a breeze.
Before you sign up with a host, we recommend you ask other podcasters for recommendations, and talk to your host-to-be to make sure that they've got a head on their shoulders, and to make sure that they respond in a timley professional manner. A bad host means: slow downloads for your listeners, no downloads if you go over your bandwidth limits, no customer support, a waste of time and money, and a royal pain-in-the-butt to switch to a better host.
The best hosts out there make it easy to record / upload your content, make it easy for you to edit your ID3 tags and shownotes, give your content (and audience) room to grow, and treat you like royalty.
